Uppercut Dance Theater
Uppercut Dance Theater is a diverse dance company with a 40-year long history. The artistic direction is led by award-winning choreographers and dancers Stephanie Thomasen and Mark Philip.
The company works with a fusion of different styles, illustrated by the dancers' backgrounds in capoeira, break and contemporary dance. The movement language is often raw, relevant, humorous and served with a powerful physical expression.
The works of recent years have resulted in several prestigious awards, nominations and grants, as well as overwhelmingly positive response from the public and critics. Amongst other the trilogy WHAT WAS MUST DIE received the awards of Best Dance Performance at the Danish Reumert Awards in 2020 for SAMBA (part I) and 2022 for KALINKA (part III), as well as several nominations for Best Dancer in SAMBA, and LIMBO (part II, 2021).
Uppercut’s most recent touring performance BENCHED is experiencing great local and international recognition, and has so far toured in Denmark, Sweden, Turkey, Canada, Italy and Finland.
As an internationally oriented company, Uppercut Dance Theater is open for co-producers for future productions and touring opportunities. We have great experience in crash-projects, where artistic visions meet in collaboration, and are always eager to discover new partners.
